How to Choose the Right uPVC Windows for Your Home in Delhi NCR

With dozens of uPVC brands, fabricators, and dealers operating in Greater Noida, Noida, Ghaziabad, and across Delhi NCR, choosing the right windows can feel overwhelming. This guide walks you through the 6 critical factors that separate a premium installation from a substandard one — so you invest once and never regret it.

uPVC window selection guide for Delhi NCR homes

1. Check the Profile Wall Thickness

This is the single most important quality indicator. The outer wall thickness of the uPVC profile should be minimum 2.5mm to 3.0mm (Class A as per European standard EN 12608). Many budget manufacturers use 1.8–2.0mm walls (Class C), which leads to warping, cracking, and seal failure within 3–5 years.

How to verify: Ask the fabricator for the profile's technical data sheet. Use a digital caliper on a cut sample. At Shri Ram Buildtech, we use only Class A profiles with 2.8mm+ wall thickness on every installation.

2. Steel Reinforcement Inside the Profile

uPVC profiles are hollow by design, but structural integrity comes from galvanized steel reinforcement inserted inside the main chambers. The steel thickness should be 1.5mm minimum for windows and 2.0mm for doors. Some fabricators skip reinforcement on smaller windows or use thinner steel to cut costs — this leads to sagging and hardware failure.

Pro tip: Ask to see the reinforcement before it's inserted during fabrication. A reputable fabricator will happily show you.

3. Glass Specification: Single vs Double Glazing

For Delhi NCR's extreme climate (45°C summers, 5°C winters), double-glazed units (DGU) are essential. A standard DGU consists of two panes of glass (typically 5mm each) separated by a 12mm argon-gas-filled gap. This configuration provides:

Single-glazed windows are acceptable only for interior partitions or budget-constrained projects where noise is not a concern.

4. Hardware Quality: Hinges, Locks & Handles

Hardware is the mechanical backbone of your windows. Poor-quality hinges and locks are the number one cause of premature window failure in India. Look for:

5. Weatherproofing: Gaskets & Drainage

Delhi NCR experiences heavy monsoon rains (July–September) and dust storms (March–June). Your uPVC windows need EPDM rubber gaskets (not PVC gaskets) that maintain flexibility across -20°C to 120°C. Check that the profile has integrated drainage slots at the bottom sill to channel rainwater outward, preventing pooling and leakage.

6. Installation Quality & Warranty

Even the best profile and hardware will fail if installation is poor. A professional installation includes laser-level alignment, proper shimming, PU foam insulation in the frame gap, external weather sealant, and internal trim finishing. Always insist on:
